Hey there, Lucy! Thanks for stopping by planDisney with your question. I am excited to see that you and your family are interested in becoming
Walt Disney World Annual Passholders. I've been a passholder for years now and I can say with absolute confidence it was the best decision!
Walt Disney World Annual Passes aren't activated until the first date of use. So you can purchase them before your vacation and then activate them once you are there. Your expiration date is one year after the first use, not the actual purchase date.
Lucy, if you've been trying to find information on the Walt Disney World website you may have noticed that there isn't much to be found right now. That is because the sale of new Walt Disney World Annual Passes has been temporarily suspended. The program has not yet come back to us for new sales since the shutdown last year. However, the good news is that you won't have to wait too much longer, Lucy. A few weeks ago the
Disney Parks Blog announced that the sale of new Walt Disney World Annual Passes will open back up just in time for the big
50th Celebration which kicks off on October 1, 2021.
If you'd like to go ahead and start planning your Walt Disney World vacation in the meantime I think that is totally fine. If you purchase your theme park tickets, you can always upgrade them to a Walt Disney World Annual Pass when they become available. I'd go ahead and do this since your Walt Disney World vacation date is quickly approaching.
I'm sorry I don't have an exact date that you'll be able to join the Walt Disney World Annual Passholder family, Lucy, but rest assured it will be soon! If you have any other questions about the passholder program or anything else, please feel free to come back and
ask me. I'm happy to help.
Have a great day and happy planning!
