Are propane fire pits allowed at Fort Wilderness campsites?

Hey Dorothy. Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.

Staying at The Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort is so much fun. My family and I stayed in a cabin over Christmas and we had the best time. It is one of our favorite resorts. I think you'll be happy to know that propane fire pits are allowed at the campsites but there are a few strict rules to follow. Approved fire pits must have a solid metal top and bottom design surrounded by a mesh. This design is considered fully enclosed and is to prevent the release of embers. Fire pits that are not allowed are models that do not have a solid top and bottom and release embers. Also, propane fire pits that have an exposed flame are not permitted and artificial fire logs that allow for an exposed flame is also not permitted.  If you do a quick search on the internet with a term like "Disney Approved Fire Pits",  you can easily find the flyer that Cast Members hand out at the Fort, with a picture guide on what is and is not allowed.

If an open flame and a roasted, toasted marshmallow is what you crave - you are still in luck! You can head over to Chip 'n' Dale's Campfire Sing-A-Long nightly at the Meadow Trading Post to get your fix.  If you have them at your campsite, you can bring your own marshmallows and roasting sticks or you can purchase roasting kits while you are there.  You'll also be invited to a sing along to some old cowboy favorites and to take pictures with campfire favorites like Chip "n" Dale.  Make sure to grab a blanket before you head over to campfire because after roasting some s'mores, you can also watch a family-friendly movie under the stars.  Could camping at Walt Disney World get any better? I really don't think so!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
