Hi Albert! Thanks so much for reaching out to us again here at planDisney.
I'm so happy your question made its way to me because I struggle with motion sickness on certain attractions like you! Luckily, I've found some tips and tricks that help me ride all the rides I want and not feel the pain.
Do you know how Moana always says that the line where the sky meets the sea calls her? Well, when you're riding certain attractions that may cause motion sickness, you will want to keep your eyes on the horizon too...or just keep your eyes straight ahead. I find that if I turn my head and look around too much, I am more likely to feel sick. And don't worry about missing out on any of the action as those crafty Imagineers make sure to face you towards all the important elements! I find this trick to be especially true for rides like
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT and
TRON / Lightcycle Run presented by Enterprise in Magic Kingdom Park.
When it comes to where to sit, I usually recommend sitting toward the middle on rollercoasters as they are less prone to jerkiness and usually whip you around less. This is especially true for rides like
Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind as at some point during those rides, the front becomes the back and the back becomes the front! When you get toward the front of the line and the Cast Member asks you how many people are in your party, just let them know you'd like to sit in the middle due to motion sickness. Keep in mind that there may be a little bit more of a wait to get on the ride when you make a specific request, but they will usually be able to fulfill it!
There are a few other tips and suggestions that I personally have found useful. Of course, you know yourself better than I do and I'm not a doctor, but it may be helpful for you to hear what's worked for me. I find that I cannot ride these types of rides on an empty stomach, but I also cannot ride them
just after I eat. So I make sure something is in my stomach 30 to 60 minutes before riding. Also, I have found that if there are screens involved, I need to take an over-the-counter, non-drowsy motion sickness medication. I will also wear motion bands just to be on the safe side. Furthermore, I tend to space out my rides on problematic attractions and never ride them back to back.
Albert, there is one attraction that I will likely never ride again and I feel I need to warn you, my fellow motion sickness buddy, about. That attraction is
Mission: Space at EPCOT. Somehow, no matter what I do, this attraction always beats me. And it's a shame because it's so well-designed and a great experience. But sometimes, you just have to know your limits and listen to your body!
I hope that I have given you peace of mind and equipped you with the knowledge that you need to successfully ride these incredible attractions. After all, some of these attractions are my absolute favorites at the resort and I'd hate for you to miss out! And keep in mind that if you are ever feeling sick, you can always find a
First Aid in each park to help you feel better!
