Walt Disney World takes security seriously, and as a frequent guest, I appreciate that. Thankfully, the process is typically pretty smooth. Guests walk single file through a security screening area. If something triggers additional screening, the guest is directed to a nearby station where bags are checked. This occasionally happens to a member of my family because of an umbrella or a glasses case. It's usually pretty quick.
I have heard varying experiences from guests with joint replacements. Most report no issues with security checkpoints at Walt Disney World. If a Security Cast Member asks you to step to the side for additional screening, you can let them know about your knee. They may choose to pass a metal detector wand over it. I think you'll find it to be efficient, and you won't be delayed in getting to the parks. To make things even easier, you may want to hand your bag or any other items you are carrying to another member of your party before going through the scanner. That way, if you are asked to step to the side, there won't be the need to check your bag.
