Hi Ramona, and welcome to planDisney.
Your visit is just around the corner. How exciting! I always say the final weeks before a Walt Disney World vacation are almost as fun as the trip itself, because the anticipation builds day by day. My family likes to keep the excitement going with Disney movie nights, themed dinners, or even
counting down on a chalkboard or with post-it notes so the kids can cross off or peel off each day. It’s a great way to make the wait feel just as magical as the vacation ahead.
From your question, I think you may have been reading about the
Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It’s an incredible, privately guided adventure that takes you off the beaten path of Kilimanjaro Safaris, with time on rope bridges and a special viewing area overlooking the savanna, complete with African-inspired snacks. It truly is unforgettable, but Guests must be at least 8 years old to participate, so little ones won’t be able to join just yet.
The good news is that there are a couple of wonderful alternatives that welcome younger explorers.
Caring for Giants is a 60-minute experience that brings you closer to Disney’s African elephant herd than you’d ever expect, while Cast Members share how these animals are cared for and how conservation efforts extend beyond the park.
Up Close with Rhinos is another family-friendly option where you’ll get to step behind the scenes to meet some of the white rhinos and hear from the animal care team. Both of these are great ways to inspire curiosity in children while keeping the experience accessible. And of course,
Kilimanjaro Safaris itself is a must-do. It’s open to all ages, and there’s nothing quite like seeing giraffes, lions, and elephants just a few feet away from your safari vehicle.
While you’re in Animal Kingdom, make sure to plan time for some food and entertainment as well.
Festival of the Lion King is my absolute favorite show in the park, and it’s a must for families. For dining,
Satu’li Canteen in Pandora serves some of the best quick-service meals on property, and
Tusker House is a great character dining option with African-inspired dishes alongside traditional favorites, perfect for adventurous eaters and picky palates alike.
If you’d like more ideas for your day at Animal Kingdom, or want tips on how to make the most of the Lightning Lane Multi Pass in this park,
send me another question, and I’d be happy to help.
