Hi! For the princess half marathon, we'll be combining it with a family holiday. It will be a once in a lifetime trip (from Australia), would you recommend the holiday being 2 weeks before or after the event? We'll have a 9 and a 6 year old.

    Hi Erin!

I love this plan! Two weeks will be amazing and combining it with the Princess Half Marathon will definitely make it more special. There are race events for the whole family!

First, I think either before or after will be fine and you will have an amazing experience. However, if I were to choose one, I think having your family holiday the two weeks after the race would be ideal for the following reasons:
    1. Two weeks of walking around the parks will leave your legs feeling tired and not at their most rested for a race.

    2. Walt Disney World offers amazing food choices and part of being on vacation is about trying new, adventurous foods. Trying new foods or eating a lot (like most do on vacation) is not the best idea leading up to a race, either.

    3. If you are there in the weeks before the race, you may harbor a sense of nervousness throughout your trip. However, staying after the race gives the entire holiday a feeling of celebration over your accomplishment.

    4. Vacationing after the race should allow you to be there for Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival. This festival usually begins the week after the Princess Half. It's amazing and a big reason I recommend your holiday for after the race.

    5. The weather should be consistently warmer in the weeks after the race.

Again, there is no wrong answer! Two weeks at Walt Disney World will be magical anytime. But, if your schedule is flexible, I would recommend staying after your race events.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions as you plan your magical holiday!
