Hi, Andrea!
I'm excited you want to "Run for a Cause" during the
2016 Disney Princess Half Marathon. I am here to answer all your runDisney planning questions, including information on running for charity. My son is currently working with St. Jude's Children's Hospital as a charity runner for the Disneyland® 10K, so I've learned a lot on how the process works.
Your first step is to select a charity from the list of participants when they post to the runDisney website. You can take a sneak peak at your options by visiting the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend homepage on the runDisney website and selecting the REGISTRATION tab. From there, select the fundraising tab and then select the "CrowdRise" link. St. Jude's, Autism Speaks and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals are always excellent choices. You may also be guided by the amount of required fundraising. For example, my son is responsible for raising $1,4000 for St. Jude's but my friend, who is running the Disneyland® Half for the A-T Children's Project, only needs to raise $600. Another great tip is to visit the homepage for the Disneyland® Half Marathon Weekend and visit the Charity Groups tab under REGISTRATION to get an idea of requirements.
Once charities have posted to the runDisney website and you've selected who you would like to run for, you will select that charities link and complete your registration directly through them. Many will even offer tools that will allow you to share your cause on your social media outlets to spread the word and encourage your connections to donate.
I hope this helps get you started, Andrea. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any further questions. And keep checking the website - many charities will allow you to get started before registration even opens to the public!
