Previously when we have booked our Disney cruises, we have been eligible for the military rate as DOD employees. Has this changed?

    Hi there, Kacie,

As I understand things, eligibility for Special US Military Rates on the Disney Cruise Line is currently aligned with eligibility for similar types of US Military offers available at the Disneyland Resort and the Walt Disney World Resort. Eligible Service Members now refers to retired and active US military personnel and their spouses, including members of the National Guard, Reservists, the US Coast Guard, the US Space Force, the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service (PHS), and the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Veterans who are 100% disabled are also eligible.

To confirm eligibility, Guests who book one of these special military rates must present a valid ID such as one of the following:

    • Next Generation Uniformed Services ID (USID) Card (with eligible affiliation)
    • Common Access Card (CAC, except cards that indicate "Civilian" or "Contractor" affiliation)
    • Select legacy USID card types, such as:
      • DD Form 2
      • DD Form 1173 or 1173-1 (must indicate "Spouse," "SP," or "DEC-DB")
      • DD Form 2765 (must indicate "DAV" or "DAVPRM" for 100% Disabled American Veterans or other eligible status)

Guests who do not meet the above eligibility and ID requirements may still take advantage of various other savings opportunities. The Disney Cruise Line Special Offers are updated frequently. Be sure to check that page often for the latest savings being offered. Currently, that includes savings of up to 35% off cruise fare on select sailings available to all Guests.

I understand if that may not be exactly the news you had been expecting, Kacie. I also happen to have a government ID that might have previously been considered as qualifying for certain special rates like these. But since my ID doesn’t have a qualifying affiliation that would grant me authorized patronage to the same services as eligible members of the military, I also would not qualify for the special military rates. As a regular Guest like you, I wouldn't be able to speculate on reasons for policy adjustments that are sometimes made. Of course, I'm certain that there is no intention of minimizing the crucial role that you and many thousands of other civilians play in supporting the essential operations of the US defense services. As we approach the semiquincentennial of the United States of America, I'm grateful to at least see the many ways that Disney Parks, including the Disney Cruise Line, are planning to celebrate the milestone and also honor the uniformed members of the US military, who sacrifice to maintain the freedoms we have enjoyed for nearly 250 years.

Thanks for visiting planDisney, Kacie. I hope you can book a cruise that brings magic and joy to you and your party.
    ~Tony
