Bright Suns, Thomas! It's great to see you here today at the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I'm so glad that I get to answer this question for you before you take off for the planet Batuu this week.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is definitely the attraction at
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with the most buzz right now, mostly because of the unique
boarding group process that's drawing a lot of guests early in the morning, so I'm happy to walk you through exactly how you and your son can maximize your chances of success in joining the virtual queue.
Anyone who wants to join a boarding group for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance needs to have used their
admission to enter
Disney's Hollywood Studios, so if you and your son both want to ride he will need to join you in the morning. Only people in your party who have tapped their
ticket or MagicBand to enter the Theme Park will be available to select when you join a boarding group in the
My Disney Experience app. Boarding groups are going live at the Theme Park's official opening time, so you don't really have to be there super early in the morning in order to join. I recommend arriving around 45 minutes to an hour before opening so you have time to get through the security check and get in line to be one of the first people inside. Although this is subject to change, guests are currently being allowed to enter Disney's Hollywood Studios and filter onto Hollywood Boulevard about 30 minutes before official opening time, so that should give you plenty of time to scan your admission before you need to join a boarding group. The virtual queue has been filling up very quickly in the morning, so be ready to open the My Disney Experience app the moment the Theme Park opens for the day!
'Til the Spire, Thomas, and may the Force be with you!
