Hello Bob,
As the current
UK-based planDisney Panelist, it's truly my pleasure to welcome you back to planDisney!
Bob, this is such a fun question to ask! I've often wondered exactly how in the world can real-life pumpkins be grown in the iconic "Mickey" shape. After researching an answer for you, I now, of course, understand that those clever imagineers use specially engineered moulds to help them create that magical "Mickey" shape.
Whilst to the very best of my current knowledge, I don't believe these special moulds are offered for sale to Guests visiting Walt Disney World Resort. I can say for sure that Guests are able to discover Mickey-shaped pumpkins growing, or on display within the
Living with the Land Pavillion at
EPCOT.
Additionally, did you know that Guests can go
Behind the Seeds on a tour at Living with the Land? This 1-hour walking tour of all 4 greenhouses and the fish farm can be
booked up to 60-days ahead of time by dialling the UK freephone number for
Tours, Recreation contained within this
Walt Disney World Resort Phone Directory. Or, it may also be possible to find limited walk-up availability on the day you wish to visit direct at the location.
Interestingly, during my pumpkintastic research for you Bob, I discovered the variety of pumpkin typically used for Mickey-shaped moulds is aptly named "Cinderella". Plus, some years ago a farmer from Lincolnshire grew all the Mickey-shaped pumpkins used during Halloween at Disneyland Paris.
To learn more about this spooky subject, be sure to check out this past
Disney Parks Blog article!Bob, I hope I've been able to provide a little magical insight for you today. Please know you'll always be as welcome as can be to pop back to
me here at planDisney if you should have any further questions about visiting Walt Disney World Resort.
Have a great Disney day ~
Jane
