Hi Cameron,
Thank you so much for stopping by planDisney with your question about Lightning Lane and Rider Switch! We were just at Walt Disney World this past weekend, and let me tell you—Lightning Lane was an absolute game-changer for us. Not only did it help us stay cool under that strong Florida sunshine (hello, summer!) and gave us more time to make magical memories instead of waiting in a longer line.
Now let’s dive into your question. You’ll be happy to know that yes, you can use
Rider Switch with
Lightning Lane—and my family always does it. We’re a family of four, and while our daughters love rides, our youngest still isn’t quite tall enough for some of the bigger thrills. So, Rider Switch has become one of our favorite planning tools.
Here’s how it works: when you arrive at the entrance to an attraction, have your whole party together and let a friendly Cast Member know you'd like to use Rider Switch. From there, your group will be split into two parties. Group A goes on the ride first, using Lightning Lane, and Group B waits outside with the little one. A Cast Member will scan the MagicBands or tickets for those in Group B so they can come back through the Lightning Lane after the first group finishes.
We recently did this on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and it was a huge hit. Since there were only three of us riding, my oldest daughter got to go in both groups—she was thrilled to visit the Bayou twice in one go! Just keep in mind that everyone riding needs to have a valid Lightning Lane for that attraction for Rider Switch to work smoothly.
And since you’ll be visiting in August, I highly recommend checking out the
Cool Kid Summer offerings around the parks on the
My Disney Experience app! My girls have been having an absolute blast dancing with characters, singing songs, and getting creative with fun crafts.
Cameron, I hope this helps you plan your upcoming adventure! If you have any more questions as you get ready for your visit, don’t hesitate to reach out again.
See ya real soon,
Christina
