Hello, David!
Thanks for stopping by planDisney. I am glad to hear you are planning a Disney Cruise Line vacation!
I have food allergies in my family, and I always like to have a plan in place for ensuring each family member has food they can eat. While allergen-specific menus are not typically available ahead of time, be sure to notify Disney Cruise Line of your allergies at least a couple of weeks before your sailing. A
Special Dietary Request form can usually be found under "My Reservations" on the
Disney Cruise Line website. Sharing this information helps the crew create meal options for Guests with allergies. In my experience, there are always plenty of choices, and the dining team is wonderful about modifying dishes or creating something that fits your needs.
In the past, I have even been able to request specific items a few weeks before our cruise, such as a certain brand of butter or donuts. They can't guarantee availability, but they truly do their best to accommodate special requests.
Once you're on the ship, check the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app for the time of the Onboard Dining Session. This is a great opportunity to review your family's food allergies, ask any questions, and discuss options for dinner. My family also prefers to have lunch in a dining room on Embarkation Day rather than at the buffet-style locations. This gives us a chance to speak directly with a server or chef, if needed.
Disney Cruise Line offers rotational dining, where you visit different restaurants on most nights, but your serving team stays with you. This consistency is incredibly helpful with food allergies, as they will note your needs on the first night and keep track of them for each dinner for the rest of the cruise. We also pre-ordered meals for the next day at the end of dinner every night. We were even able to pre-order breakfast at
Cabanas, the all-you-care-to-enjoy restaurant. When we arrived at the restaurant in the morning, we connected with a Cast Member who ensured those meals were prepared.
While Disney Cruise Line takes great care with food allergies, they can't guarantee that any item is completely allergen-free. Each Guest should decide what feels comfortable to them. That said, my family has safely enjoyed multiple Disney Cruises thanks to the thoughtful attention of the dining teams.
David, I hope this information is helpful. If you have other questions, feel free to
send them my way!
Happy sailing!
Jen
