? about the pony rides! i saw a post from u this summer that says u can make reservations! we are goin Oct 12th & i didn't make any res-do I need 2? Our 5yr old owns a pony but can't do the trail ride so we don't wanna miss the pony rides!

Hi, Crystal! Our youngest child -- who was four at the time -- loved riding a pony at Fort Wilderness a few years ago. Yet, I think the rest of the family enjoyed it even more as we "ooh-ed" and "aah-ed" from the fence!

You certainly can make a pony-ride reservation for children ages 2-8 and less than 80 pounds by calling 407-WDW-PLAY. Yet, we actually walked up to the stables (located between the horse barn and Pioneer Hall) on a day we were hanging around the resort with no problem and no wait.  Just remember that pony rides are usually only given between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.

On this low-key day, we also were able to talk to the stable hands and get some great information about the ponies -- where they come from, what they eat, their names and their personalities.  We learn so much on each trip to WDW when we slow down and take in the knowledge and compassion of the Cast Members!

If you're not staying at Fort Wilderness and have a good idea of what your schedule is for the time you're visiting there, then go ahead and make a reservation just in case.  If you're staying at the Fort anyway, then just check in at the stables when you happen by and check out the petting zoo, too. Some of our best vacations have occurred when we had the least amount of activities scheduled!

Thanks for visiting me here on the Moms Panel, and thanks for your question.  Have a wonderful day, a a magical vacation and tell the ponies "Hi!" for us!
