Please share your secrets of getting Gideon's Bakehouse cookies home! I learned you can freeze them for months, but should I try to freeze before flying home? How long are they fresh at WDW before I need to get them home and freeze (or eat)? Thank you!

Hi there, Amy! Welcome back to planDisney. We are so happy to see you again!

Amy, I have a pretty aggressive sweet tooth and like to think of myself as a cookie connoisseur. So, I’m a pretty reliable source for taste testing a dessert, and I can tell you that the cookies from Gideon’s Bakehouse TOTALLY lived up to the hype! They are by far the best cookies I’ve ever had in my entire life…and I’ve had a lot of cookies!

Now that I am a full-on Gideon’s addict, I simply cannot visit Walt Disney World without stopping over to pick up some cookies to keep in my freezer at home. In fact, my parents just recently visited Walt Disney World, and I sent them on a mission on my behalf to pick up some cookies to re-up my supply! So, let’s talk about what I’ve learned along the way.

The cookies from Gideon’s Bakehouse are fresh for up to three days from purchase, as long as they are kept in an air-tight package. So, I always pack a jumbo-sized Ziploc bag in my suitcase to safely store my cookies for the journey home. Now, when I say jumbo, I mean it! These cookies are BIG, weighing about half a pound each, so you will want to ensure the bag is big enough to hold them all. Another important thing to keep in mind is that there is a limit of six cookies per person, but I usually split them in half since they are so large.

Since the cookies are only good at room temperature for up to three days, I usually like to head over to Disney Springs the day before heading home to make sure they are as fresh as possible. Then, I pack them in my Ziploc bag and pop them right in the freezer as soon as I get home. The cookies will last for a few months once safely stored in your freezer.

Now, when hunger strikes and you’re ready to dive into your supply, it's important to be patient! The team over at Gideon’s made sure to tell me that the cookies should absolutely not be put in the microwave or oven to thaw, as it with ruin the texture and taste of the cookie. So, you will want to take it out of the freezer and let it thaw at room temperature for about two hours for the best experience. But it’s definitely worth the wait!

Amy, I cannot wait for you to give these cookies a try. But, fair warning, you may become addicted like I did! If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to reach back out to your favorite cookie expert, me!

    Until next time,
    Diana
