Hi Vikki! Welcome to planDisney.
Avatar Flight of Passage is my favorite attraction at Walt Disney World Resort. For me, there is nothing like soaring on a banshee through
Pandora - the sights, the smells, and the music make this experience so immersive and exhilarating. In fact, my fellow panelists love to laugh at me because I have never ridden without happy tears streaming down my face!
While Disney does not release seat dimensions, I hope I can help explain the way the seat works on this attraction. Because you are sitting on a banshee (you can even feel it breathe during your flight), the seat is close to a motorcycle with restraints at the back and on each calf. For the back restraint, I have heard the best thing to do is to ensure you slide forward as much as you can. I am large-chested and find I am a little "squished" when I ride, but I forget that feeling as soon as we take off. I rode the attraction a few years ago with a broken foot, and I'll admit I was uncomfortable with the foot position and calf restraints (but again, worth it).
I've spoken to and heard reports from several Guests who were not able to ride, and it sounds like it's not so much the measurements as your body type. The Cast Members will do everything they can to assist you in getting the restraints fastened, and are well-trained. Guests who cannot be safely restrained will be discreetly guided out of the link chamber area - the good thing on this ride is that all riders are facing forward and there's a lot to look at on the banshee and ahead of them, so I doubt anyone would notice. As you mentioned, there is a test seat out front and it's worth trying or speaking with the Cast Members about any concerns you may have.
Vikki, there is so much to explore in Pandora, so even if Avatar Flight of Passage doesn't work out, I know you will love your visit. Don't miss
Na'vi River Journey, which is my #1 pick for "ride I want in my house." This spellbinding ride through a Pandoran forest is truly magical, and I listen to the soundtrack anytime I want to feel relaxed. Make a stop at
Pongu Pongu for an order of Pongu Lumpia (pineapple spring rolls) and a Night Blossom, which is a sweet-tart and refreshing frozen drink and is perfect to enjoy while taking in the majestic floating mountains and gorgeous landscape.
Enjoy your visit, and please come back and see us if you have any further questions as you plan and dream.
Wishing you a magical vacation,
Robyn
