    Please explain Lightning Lane Entry

Hey there, Jeanmarie, and welcome to planDisney! Thanks for stopping by the panel with your question! I'm more than happy to explain Disney’s Lightning Lane Entry process for you! Let’s jump right in.

Walt Disney World has two primary Lightning Lane options throughout the Theme Parks: Disney’s Genie+ Lightning Lane entrances and Individual Lightning Lane entrances. Lightning Lane Entrances give Guests the opportunity to reserve a time window to experience their desired attraction. Having an attraction return window allows you to plan your Theme Park days more efficiently! It also helps you experience more attractions because standby wait times are typically much higher than Lightning Lane Entrance wait times. And if you’re anything like me, the goals of my Disney Vacations are to have fun and wait in as few lines as possible! Lightning Lane Entrances help me to accomplish both of those goals in one!

Disney’s Genie+ Service is available as a daily add-on service you can purchase each morning of your Theme Park days. When you purchase Genie+, you get access to reserve many attractions throughout the Theme Park. Now, let’s talk through the practical process. You can decide whether (or not) you would like to use the Genie+ Service each day you visit the parks and, if you choose to, purchase through the My Disney Experience mobile app. You can begin purchasing the Genie+ Service at 12:01 a.m. EST, but if you aren’t much of a night owl, you’ll have to be an early bird! I suggest completing your purchase before 6:30 a.m. EST because you can make your first attraction reservation at 7 a.m. EST. With Genie+, you have to reserve your attractions one by one in the mobile app. The fantastic news is that the mobile app will tell you when you can reserve your next attraction.

As I briefly mentioned, not all attractions are eligible for Disney’s Genie+ Service. At least one attraction in each Theme Park is excluded from the Genie+ option and only available through an Individual Lightning Lane purchase. Individual Lightning Lanes allow Guests the opportunity to reserve an attraction return window for the most sought-after attraction in each park. Unlike the Genie+ Service, Guests are only allowed two Individual Lightning Lane reservations per Theme Park day. You can purchase both Individual Lightning Lane reservations at 7 a.m. EST on the morning of your Theme Park day, but only for Guests staying in a Disney Resorts Collection hotel. Guest staying off-property can purchase their first Individual Lightning Lane Entrance at the Theme Park opening time. Further, Individual Lightning Lane purchases are available for all Guests - with or without the Disney Genie+ service.

Whew, I know that was a lot! The quick summary is that Lightning Lane Entrances are available to assist in planning out your Theme Park days and minimizing wait time to experience attractions. I hope this helps, Jeanmarie! If you have additional questions, please stop back by and let me know
