I want to make plans for me and my daughter to visit WDW for Christmas and the says following. How crazy are the lines and crowds? Is it warm enough around that time to enjoy water rides and pools?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Lisette! I know you’re in for a Very Merry Holiday this year as you plan your Christmas-time visit to Walt Disney World Resort. I visited with my family in the “teens” of December, right before it got crowded for the official holiday, and we had a festive time with the decorations, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and all the wonderful treats available around property.

One thing I do each time I plan a Walt Disney World Resort vacation is to check the Undercover Tourist Crowd Calendar as well as the Parks Hours Calendar. These 2 tools combined will tell me park hours as well as estimated crowd size on any given day. I can tell you that historically, as soon as December 22nd arrives, crowds thicken and stay that way until after the New Year. Make good use of your FastPass+ reservations as well as dining reservations in order to give you short lines and seats at your favorite restaurants. This past year, it was extremely chilly in Florida and I needed my ski cap, but in 2016, it was warm and I donned short sleeves for my visit, so I would check the weather closer to your planned vacation in order to pack your suitcase properly. I can tell you that the pools and waterparks offer warmed water all year round for comfort, and you will also find hot tubs/whirlpools at a few of the Resorts, but keep in mind they may be closed for weather, refurbishment, etc.

Don’t forget to bring your poncho, though! These handy covers work wonders on rides like Splash Mountain, so you can experience the incredible fun of this ride without walking around in a wet shirt during cold weather. My friends chose this plan during our holiday visit, and they loved it! If I can help you plan your upcoming vacation further, please let me know. You’ve got a friend in me! ~ Lindsey P.
