Hi Laura,
It sounds like you are trying to decide between Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Beach Club Resort for the beginning of your vacation. I think that this is really a matter of your family's preference. I do have a suggestion on what I would choose - but first let's look at each resort.
Disney's Wilderness Lodge is beautiful, with rich and dark decor. It is themed to the Pacific Northwest National Parks Lodge at the turn of the century. From Disney's Wilderness Lodge, you can take a boat to Disney's Magic Kingdom, and a bus to the other theme parks. There is a nice pool, and both quick-service and table service dining are available.
Disney's Beach Club Resort is lovely. The beach theme is breezy and quaint. From Disney's Beach Club resort, you can walk to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios, or take a boat to either of these parks. You would take a bus to the other theme parks. Stormalong Bay pool area is amazing, with sand bottom and a lazy river. From Disney's Beach Club Resort, you can easily walk to Disney's Yacht Club Resort, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, and Disney's BoardWalk Inn. This increases your nearby dining and recreation options significantly.
If I was making this decision for my family, I would choose Disney's Beach Club Resort. The hustle and bustle around Crescent Lake is so energetic, and I just love this resort area. I must say though, this really is a personal decision. I can completely understand why some guests love Disney's Wilderness Lodge. I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Laura. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
