Planning a week in May 2011. 1st time for my wife and almost 3 yr old boy. Most nights my son will be asleep early. Any hotel suggestions that will allow my wife and I enjoyable evening time on the balcony (with great ambiance, but not too loud)?

Scott, my favorite resort to suggest to parents who need a balcony when little ones need to sleep is the Yacht and Beach Club resorts.  They are indeed deluxe so the price will be at the higher end but if you request a water view room you can sit outside in the evenings and watch the lights and action across the water at Boardwalk.

But this is not the only great spot.  The resorts on the monorail such as the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, and Contemporary will offer relaxed times on balconies especially if you have water view rooms.  Any room in the main building of the Contemporary will look out over water.

The Wilderness Lodge is a peaceful and relaxing resort while the Animal Kingdom will offer animal sightings from its balconies.  It comes down to perhaps how much money you wish to spend and what would interest you the most for a view but I can say I have enjoyed many a time just sitting and relaxing and loving the peacefulness of a Disney resort balcony!
