We are planning our 50th wedding anniversary family vacation; 8 adults, 5 children. We want help planning our cruise, please.

Ahoy, Tim! Congratulations on your upcoming 50th anniversary and welcome to planDisney, where we answer guest questions to help ensure smooth sailing on your next Disney Cruise Line vacation.

There are currently over 750 different sailings available for booking with Disney Cruise Line, so the first step is narrowing down what type of cruise you want to experience. Let me provide you with a few different factors to consider that will help you find the right option for you and your family.

    • Sailing Dates. Since this is a celebratory cruise for your anniversary, are you looking to sail on a particular date or within a certain month? That will reduce your options significantly and may eliminate certain destinations or departure ports depending on the month. For example, the Alaskan itineraries are only available between May and September, so the departure port of Vancouver is only an option during those months as well.
    • Destination. Are you considering an international sailing or are you more interested in finding the closest departure port to home? Would you like your cruise to include stops at Disney’s two island destinations, Disney Castaway Cay or Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point? Once you know when you want to sail, you can see which itineraries are available and all of the possible ports of call to visit.
    • Length. Did you want a weeklong family vacation or were you picturing a long weekend getaway? Disney Cruise Line has itineraries ranging from 3-nights to 14-nights with several options in between, so there are plenty of sailings that can fit your vision.

Once you know what you are looking for, you can use the Plan a Cruise feature on the Disney Cruise Line website to find a cruise that meets your specifications. Start by clicking on the “Plan a Cruise” tab at the top of the main website and then you can use the filters to narrow down the options. The three main filters are located in the white boxes at the top labeled “Leaving,” “Sailing to,” and “Departing from.” However, if you click on the “More Filters” option on the far right, you can also select themed or holiday cruises, the number of nights, and the specific ship.

I hope that gives you a place to start and I’m sure that you will find the perfect cruise to celebrate this important milestone with your family. As you continue planning your trip, I know that you will have a lot more questions, so feel free to sail back over to planDisney at any time. Happy sailing!
