We are planning a WDW vacation in 9/16, it will be our 3 yr old's 1st trip to WDW & while we are on the trip - our 3 yr old will turn 4! We are staying at the Grand Floridian. Any suggestions for making our son's birthday extra special?

    Hi Shane,

How exciting to be bringing your son to Walt Disney World for the first time - and over his birthday as well! Let me offer a few suggestions for your trip.

First, be sure to pick up a complimentary "Happy Birthday" button for your son. You can get these at Guest Relations at any Disney theme park, and often they are available at resorts and other locations within the theme parks. You can also pick up a "First Visit" button for him, and "I'm Celebrating" buttons for the rest of your traveling party. These buttons signal other guests and cast members alike to your special occasion. Sometimes when wearing a button, you might receive a little extra pixie dust. I will never forget my daughter's eyes on her seventh birthday when a cast member brought her a giant cupcake at The Plaza Restaurant! This kind of magic is not guaranteed, so do not expect it, and it will be even more magical if it does happen. I also suggest noting on any dining reservation that you make, as well as on your resort reservation, that you are celebrating a special occasion.

You can also look into having a special gift made for your son at Disney Floral and Gifts. They have a wide variety of gifts for all occasions including snacks, plush animals, balloons and so much more. They can customize a gift with many different characters. Once you have perused their website, you can give them a call at 407-WDW-GIFT (407-939-4438) to work with a Magic Maker to create the perfect gift for your son.

Finally,I like to celebrate birthdays by letting the birthday child take charge of the day. Even though he is very young, if you have been there a few days by the time it is his birthday, find out what your son liked to do the most and do it again.

I would love to help you plan further Shane; however, I am limited in the amount of space that I have to answer. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
