We are planning our WDW vacation for January 2023. I'm seeing a lot of information about magic bands. Are these required for our time at the parks? What are our options if we don't get magic bands?

Hey there, hi there, Jennifer! Welcome back to planDisney! You're as welcome as can be here, and I'm so happy that you're back with another great vacation planning question. I just love chatting Disney with my pals, pal!

Is there any better way to ring in a new year than a vacation to The Most Magical Place on Earth?! I certainly don't think so! Vacationing at Walt Disney World Resort is my favorite thing to do, and a MagicBand is my favorite functional, magical accessory. I purchase a new MagicBand (or two) on every visit, and I can't wait to snag a new MagicBand+ when I arrive at Walt Disney World Resort in a few days! I just find the Bands to be so convenient for hands-free Resort room entry, theme park entry, Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane entry and for making purchases. Plus, they're adorable and give me that "I'm in the Disney bubble" feeling, so, they are a must for me. I'm thrilled to chat MagicBands and other pixie-dusted options with you today, Jennifer!

Although I adore my MagicBands and can't wait to explore all of the new features the new MagicBand+ has to offer, these Bands certainly are not required for you to have a magical time at Walt Disney World Resort. If MagicBands aren't your thing, Hakuna Matata! It means "no worries!" You can easily unlock your Resort Hotel room door by using the My Disney Experience app. Then, be sure to download your Disney MagicMobile Pass from your My Disney Experience app into your smartphone's digital wallet. This way, you will have easy, magical access to theme park entry, Lightning Lane entry and more with just the swipe of your smartphone or Apple watch. How cool is that?!

To make quick, convenient, magical purchases without a MagicBand, I suggest taking advantage of Mobile Food and Beverage Ordering and Merchandise Mobile Checkout using the My Disney Experience app. These are my favorite time-saving tips, as you can purchase your meals, snacks and souvenirs with just a couple of taps. Just log in to your My Disney Experience app, tap the plus sign at the bottom of the screen and choose "Order Food" or "Shop in Store" to begin the process. You can store up to six credit cards under "Payment Method" on "My Profile" on the app to make this process even easier and faster! BEST. DAY. EVER!

I hope this was helpful, Jennifer, and I hope you have the most magical and memorable time on your magical adventure next year! Please feel free to stop by any time with any vacation planning questions you may have along the way. You've got a friend in me!

    See ya real soon,
