I am planning a WDW 1st time trip for end of June. While we are there we will be celebrating my son's 5th birthday. My question is June is not that long away, is it to late to be able to do character dining/cake ordering? Best places?-Micky & Monsters

    Tori,
I would call 407-WDW-DINE (407-939-3463) to secure your Advanced Dining Reservation today. You will probably not have your first choice of restaurants and/or dining times but you shouldn't be totally shut out of table service restaurants yet.

Your first trip to WDW and celebrating your son’s fifth birthday are monumental events. You’ll definitely want to splurge on a character meal. For Mickey, I would suggest Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary Resort. This is such a fun restaurant and Mickey throws a great party. There is singing, napkin waving and yummy food. Breakfast and dinner are served at this location. We try to book this meal on our night of arrival.

Other places with Mickey include: The Garden Grill in Epcot for lunch and dinner, Tusker House breakfast and lunch in Animal Kingdom and the ‘Ohana breakfast at the Polynesian. While characters are subject to change, he appears regularly at these restaurants.

The Monsters Inc. characters do not host meals, however you will find them at the Hollywood Studios. They do Meet ‘n’ Greets on the Streets of America. The park’s Times Guide will have the meeting times listed when you arrive. You'll find a Times Guide next to the park maps.

It is not too late to order a cake. After you secure an Advance Dining Reservation, you can call the cake hotline at 407-827-2253 to make arrangements. Call ahead about two weeks in advance (and at least 48 hours) to order a personalized cake at an additional fee.

Also have the occasion noted on your reservation and mention it to your Host/Hostess and Server. Many restaurants will deliver a complimentary cupcake. In addition, 6 inch, non-personalized cakes can also be ordered at the restaurant podium. They will say “Happy Birthday”. Last time I looked, prices began at $12.50.

I hope your son has a magical time turning 5!
