Hi - we’re planning on visiting 4 parks in 3 days (already exhausted), is it worth spending the money on MagicBands for an 8 year old and a 13 year old (who has a phone)?

Hi Sara! Welcome to planDisney! MagicBands are a fun way for kids of all ages (including us big kids) to accessorize our Walt Disney World Resort vacation!

Having raised three sons in the Disney Parks, I do believe that both the selection and wearing of MagicBands or MagicBand+ added to the magic of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation! One of the first things the boys would ask when we told them that we had booked a vacation was, “Can we start to pick our MagicBands?”

The wide variety of bands makes it fun for kids to select the “just right” band for them! Also, wearing the band to tap into parks, access the resort hotel room, or get a snack by the pool gave them a (fun) level of independence while on vacation.

My sons are now 18, 18, and 14 and still ask about getting the latest MagicBands! One thing that we don’t do is buy a new band for every trip. We try to use them as long as possible before needing to purchase a new band. For the previous MagicBands, that usually meant replacing them after about two years. A great feature of the new MagicBand+ is that they are rechargeable! They can be used for upcoming and future visits! The other nice thing that kids enjoy about MagicBand+ is that they are interactive with entertainment and other features within the four Disney Parks!

Needless to say, Sara, I’m a fan and so are my kids! One of the best places to find MagicBands is on Also, if you have a Walt Disney World Resort vacation booked, you can select from exclusive MagicBands through your My Disney Experience app! Many come with nicely discounted pre-arrival pricing! I usually try to take advantage of the pre-arrival pricing rather than paying full price! In the end, they also make for a nice souvenir from the trip. My kids usually hand them somewhere in their room once we get home.

I hope this information is helpful as you continue to dream of your Walt Disney World Resort vacation! Come on back to planDisney if you have more questions!

    Happy Planning!
