We are planning on visiting Florida mid February and wondering if Tom Sawyer Island will be closed by then as it is my husband's favorite spot in Disney and he wants to see it before it closes.

    Hi Jennifer,

Your husband has such a great favorite spot. Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom Park is truly a hidden gem, full of charm, history, and a sense of adventure. I'm happy to share some details that may make his visit even more special.

Tom Sawyer Island opened in 1973 and was inspired by Mark Twain's beloved stories of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Walt Disney himself envisioned this tranquil retreat to feel like stepping into the pages of Twain's novels, where guests could explore caves, barrel bridges, and secret hideaways. One of the island’s most fun secrets were the hidden paintbrushes that used to be scattered around. When this was offered, finding one could once earn you a small prize, though this tradition has faded over the years.

As for your upcoming visit, I'm glad to report that, according to the current operating calendar, Tom Sawyer Island has hours posted daily through February 26, 2025. While no official announcement has been made regarding its closure to make way for new experiences, do keep in mind that Disney's offerings and schedules can change at any time.

I sincerely hope your husband gets the chance to enjoy his favorite peaceful retreat one more time. Be sure to take a leisurely raft ride to the island and soak in all its nostalgic charm, it's the perfect place to step back from the hustle and bustle and immerse yourselves in Disney's rich storytelling tradition.
