Hi we are planning to visit WDW for the first time in June, I have a 2 yo and an 11 yo. We want to rope drop AK and ride FOP w/o FP , however, is this possible if we need a rider swap? Or should one of us at least try to obtain a FP ?

Hi, Nikki! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thanks so much for stopping by with your question! This past November, my family traveled to Walt Disney World Resort with my sister's family, including her one-year-old daughter. It was an amazing First Trip for my niece, one where we used Rider Switch service many times!

While visiting Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, we actually did what you are describing and it worked out so well. If you plan to head to Avatar Flight of Passage as the park opens, also known as rope drop, then you will not have to worry about obtaining a FastPass+ selection for the attraction for anyone in your party. However, you will need to all stay together up until the point that you reach the attraction's entrance. As your party approaches the entrance, just tell the Cast Member that you will be using Rider Switch. The Cast Member will scan the MagicBands or Disney Theme Park Tickets of up to three guests who will be staying with the child. Those three guests will be assigned a return time which is usually the current wait time minus ten minutes. That return time will function in the same way as a FastPass+ selection, even providing a one-hour window for the return. Take my experience as an example. When we arrived at the entrance that morning, the posted wait was 55 minutes. My husband, sister, and brother-in-law were given a return time that was 45 minutes ahead (9:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.). Once we exited the attraction and did a quick Pongo Lumpia break, we took over with the little one and let the other three riders head off in search of their banshee.

I hope this helps you plan a fantastic morning in Pandora - The World of Avatar! Thanks again for stopping by and please let us know if you have any other questions.
