Welcome to planDisney Jennifer! Thank you for stopping by to share your question with us. How exciting that you’ll be visiting
Walt Disney World Resort to celebrate your daughter’s 10th birthday, what a truly magical way to celebrate such a special occasion! I’d be delighted to help you explore the services available to ensure your family has the most comfortable and memorable experience possible.
Disney World does offer special accommodations for children with disabilities through the
Disability Access Service (DAS). This service is designed for guests who, because of a developmental, cognitive, or similar condition, have difficulty waiting in traditional lines. Since your daughter has Down syndrome, you may apply for DAS to help make her experience smoother and less stressful.
The DAS is not a physical band or ticket. Instead, once approved, it links to her park ticket in the
My Disney Experience app. It allows you to request return times for rides that are similar to the current standby wait, but instead of standing in the line, you can enjoy other areas of the park and return at the designated time. This helps avoid the stress and difficulty of long, crowded queues.
To apply, you’ll need to
pre-register via a live video chat with a Disney Cast Member. This must be done in advance, up to 60 days before your trip. During the chat, you’ll explain why your daughter cannot wait in a traditional line. You don’t need a doctor’s note, but you should be specific about the challenges she may face, such as sensory overload, anxiety, or difficulty standing in confined spaces. Your daughter will also need to appear briefly on the call so her photo can be taken.
Once approved, DAS will be valid for the entire length of your tickets, and your whole family can be included on her DAS (up to four people total, usually immediate family). You’ll then be able to use the app in the parks to manage return times for attractions, making the day much more manageable and enjoyable for everyone.
In addition, Disney provides
accessibility planning guides with information on quiet areas, rest zones, and other helpful tips for families visiting with children who have special needs. Between DAS and Disney’s supportive services, your daughter’s 10th birthday at Disney World can be a truly magical experience.
Jennifer, I hope this information helps you feel excited as you plan for your daughter’s special birthday celebration at Walt Disney World Resort. With the Disability Access Service and Disney’s thoughtful accommodations, your family will be able to focus on the joy of the moment and create lasting memories together. Thank you for visiting planDisney with your question. Wishing you a magical vacation filled with smiles, love, and unforgettable birthday magic!
