    We are planning to visit disney in oct 2012. Our party will have 5 adults and a 2 yr old. I have heard from several people that the meal plans are a waste. Would you recommend buying meal plans or doing our own thing for dining?

    Hello, Kelli! Welcome to the Moms Panel! I am a HUGE fan of the Disney Dining Plan. It really does save you money and, many times, offers you great dining experiences that you may shy away from when you see the prices. With the DDP, my family has seen a savings of $400.00 when compared to trips when we did not utilize the DDP. Our favorite two plans are the Quick-Service Dining Plan and the basic Disney Dining Plan. When we are looking into character dining, we always select the basic DDP. This way, we can enjoy character dining every single day in addition to our counter-service meals, and snacks. Trust me, we have done this without the DDP and the difference was huge. We just wanted to see if the DDP was worth it, too. YES, it was! Also, we do not enjoy waiting in lines to meet Disney Characters. We love having the characters come to our table. Now if you don't mind the lines, the Quick-Service Plan is the plan for you. There are no reservations to be made. Just walk in and place your order. There is something to be said about not having "the clock" dictate your day. Thank you so much for visiting us here on the Moms Panel.
