I am planning to visit at christmas this year and concerned about parks closing when full. Is this common? In particular I was planning to book a meal at Crystal palace around 4pm on Christmas eve ifpark is full and closes what happens to my reservation?

It is definitely not uncommon for the theme parks--especially Magic Kingdom--to close for capacity on holidays.  And unfortunately, Simon, if it does, even a reservation at an in-park restaurant will not guarantee you a spot in the park.  The only way to ensure you are able to gain admittance to a theme park during the busiest times of the year is to show up bright and early and be among the guests who enter before the park closes for capacity.  If the park does close before you enter, you will be a no show at Crystal Palace.  I hope that helps clear things up for you.
