Mom and Daughter at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort Room

    I am planning a vacation for myself, my two children (9 and 6 y/o) and my parents. The kids and I have previously stayed at Port Orleans~Riverside. I'm wondering where you would recommend that we stay? In one room or suite or two connecting rooms? Help!

    Hi, Candice! When traveling with extended members of your family, choosing your accommodations can be of utmost importance.  When we travel with my parents, they require that they have their own bathroom. However, I know other families who don't mind sharing, and saving the money is more important to them.

    I have a few ideas, and you can decide based on how you all like to travel. You can book connecting rooms at a moderate or value resort.  We have done this before and enjoyed being together with the option of privacy. We have also booked a two-bedroom villa in one of the Disney Vacation Club resorts.  We loved the elbow room, the ease of doing laundry in the villa and  the option of eating in a few meals. If you're not a DVC member, this may be cost prohibitive since it can get a little pricey on a cash basis.

    There are family suites at All-Star Music, and although I've never stayed in one, I have toured them. They have a separate master bedroom and bathroom with a pull-out sofa and chair in the living area.  It has a kitchenette and a second bathroom, too.This seems like an affordable option with a bit more room and amenities than a traditional value resort room.

    The last option (which my family loves) is to book a cabin at Fort Wilderness.  It has a a bedroom with a double bed and a set a bunkbeds, and then a Murphy bed and sofa in the living area.  There is a full kitchen and dinette area but only one bathroom.  The cabin can sleep up to six, but I wouldn't put more than five in it. (I felt a little cramped with my husband and 16-year-old son -- who are both extra large -- plus my three other children!)  Fort Wilderness has so many recreation, dining and entertainment options that it's a vacation in and of itself.  Plus, it's only a boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom!
