I am planning a vacation to Disney in march and want to do the magic bands. Do I have to order them as well as the tickets and how does that work? Like will it take the place of the ticket and will I still be able to get into the park with one.

    Hey there, Taylor!

Welcome to planDisney and thanks for stopping by! As a tech geek, I loved seeing your question because I welcome any quality of life enhancements that Disney can provide for us with these little wearable devices. When the Disney Parks Blog first announced that MagicBand+ would be coming to the Disneyland Resort, I was ecstatic!

Let's tackle the first part of your question. There is not an option to order a MagicBand+ when you book your Disneyland Resort Vacation Package or Theme Parks Tickets at this time. The only way to have a MagicBand+ delivered to your home prior to your vacation would be to order it on They've got a wonderful selection of different bands from which to choose. Just make sure that it is a MagicBand+ because older versions are not currently supported at the Disneyland Resort. If you decide to purchase MagicBand+ after you arrive on property, they can be found at these locations throughout the Resort.

The MagicBand+ does not replace your ticket per se. It instead links to your Disney account and one ticket associated with that account. Follow these linking instructions to get it connected within the Disneyland Mobile App. So whenever you would normally take out your phone to scan your ticket, you may now just scan the MagicBand+! Super convenient! Therefore, you will be able to enter the Park with it but I would still recommend bringing your phone so you have access to the Disneyland Mobile App for things like Mobile Order, booking Lightning Lanes, and Merchandise Mobile Checkout.

Did you know that the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival will be going on during your visit? Pack your appetite when you head over because you're going to be spoiled with the variety of dishes that the Disney chefs create for this event! The Disney Parks Blog should be posting a Foodie Guide soon, so be on the lookout!

Taylor, I hope that was a helpful response for you and that you have a magical trip to the Happiest Place on Earth. I would be happy to help if you have any other questions!

Wishing You a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
