We are planning a vacation on a Disney Cruise. We want to purchase gift cards throughout the year to use on our vacation. Are Disney gift cards a good idea to use while on the ship and the private island? Is there a limit on how much you can use?

    Hey there, Amanda!

Welcome aboard! Being a Disney fan myself, I am in full support of you saving up to take a Disney cruise. Hopefully when you watch what other Guests have said about their sailing experiences with Captain Mickey, it makes you so excited about an adventure at sea.

You are already on an excellent path in wanting to purchase Disney gift cards and use those for payments towards your reservation and onboard spending. This technique enables me to spread out my spending over several months and budget better for my travels.

There’s not a limit to how many Disney gift cards you can use, but the logistics of managing a slew of cards can be tricky. So it’s a far better idea in my opinion to consolidate all those gift cards onto one or two cards. Having a stack of them to apply to your cruise reservation or to use onboard would take a lot of time and be a lot to keep up with. So I recommend that you go to the Disney Gift Card website and apply them onto one card (up to $ 1000 value) or a few cards if you are planning on saving that much!

You will need the 16-digit account number and 8-digit Security Code from each gift card to add to your account. The directions say that you’ll choose the card you wish to transfer the other cards to, select “Add Funds from Another Card” and then follow the instructions.

To then use your primary gift card(s) for your Disney Cruise Line reservation, the Disney Gift Card website recommends calling 1-866-784-1628 or going online at Disney Cruise Line. Word to the wise: keep these gift card(s) because any unused funds can be placed back on the cards at the end of your sailing.

Thanks for GIFTing us with this great question. Come back to planDisney if we can talk more about Disney vacation planning...our favorite subject!

    Happy Sailing!
