We are planning on going over to Universal Studios and Islands of adventure, however we are staying on property of Disney without a rental car. What are your suggestions for getting over there, rental car, taxi?

If it's feasible, Jennifer, my personal choice would be a rental car.  Considering the taxi fare to and from you might be able to rent a car for a comparable price.  Disney makes it convenient to rent a car; there are multiple locations to rent from on Disney property.  Driving yourselves also gives you the option to stop somewhere to eat, or maybe pick up some necessities (like bottled water or sunscreen) for cheaper than you'd be able to do in the resort gift shop.  I'd check into rental car prices and see if it's reasonable.  If so, that's probably your best bet!
