We are planning our twin boys' first trip to WDW in the first half of February (the week before they turn 5). This is our first trip with children - do you have a 'top 10' type list of do's and don'ts? Suggestions? Is this a good time/age to visit? Thx.

    Hi Jennifer,

I think any age is the perfect time to visit the Walt Disney World Resorts and five is extra special. Children can stay out a little longer and can take more of it in.

When it comes to top 10 Do's and Don'ts, I truly believe every family is different. However, these are the things that make any vacation, especially a Disney vacation, work for my family:

Do stick to your children's schedule. While every vacation needs spontaneity and a few early mornings or late nights won't hurt, too many makes for an exhausted family.

Don't buy a Park Hopper ticket. Stick to the base Magic Your Way ticket and tour one park a day.

Do take a stroller at this age. There is a lot of walking and children get tired.

Do schedule a table service meal during your normal dinner time. This avoids looking for a place to eat and creates a sense of "normalcy" for the trip.

Don't schedule more than two character meals. This becomes expensive. If your children do not like the characters, it becomes stressful.

Do ask your children what they want to see. Watch the planning video or look on-line. You can guide them but find one or two things they really want to do and make that happen.

Do set a limit on souvenirs. Whether it is a dollar amount or a number, this helps control the asking at every stop for something.

Do bring snacks and water. This helps with the budget but the waiting for the next meal. Disney requires a lot of energy and you need to stay fed and hydrated.

Do use FastPass+ to reduce your wait time. Use it for rides and for those must see characters. Shows and parades can be seen using walk up.

Do trust your mom instinct. No matter what I say hear, you know your family best so follow it and have fun!

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
