Hi, Moms, I am planning a trip for my 4 year old son but can’t decide when to go? How is the weather/crowds/costs during the 2011 Easter break in comparison to the summer (July & August)? If we decide to go in the summer, which would be the best time t

Hi, Joyce! Fortunately for you, when the crowds are lower than usual at WDW, the discounts are usually sweeter. Therefore, since Easter is one of the busiest times in the parks, there usually aren't discounts offered during that time of the year. Additionally, during the latter parts of August and into September (excluding Labor Day weekend), it's a great time to visit since the crowd levels are lower...and sometimes there are great deals to be had!

As far as weather is concerned, it is normally quite warm in WDW beginning as early as March, and by the time August rolls around, it is scorching hot! Yet, there are ways to beat the heat.  Usually in the summer, the parks are open later and offer late Extra Magic Hours for resorts guests. You may have to adjust your body clock, but it's great to enjoy the parks after dark and sleep or swim during the hottest parts of the day.

When we had preschoolers, we typically took off during September or January to enjoy short lines for attractions, but there is a trade off. Typically, the park hours are shorter during non-peak seasons, and entertainment or transportation may not be scheduled as frequently as when the crowd levels are high. In short, I definitely would recommend a late-August trip for the possibility of shorter lines but still "summer hours and schedules." Just remember your sunscreen, hats and water bottles. I hope this helps you make your plans. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation!
