We are planning a trip to WDW with a 6 year old and 4 year old - first time going. We are very flexible with dates but want to go sometime in the next year. We would like to avoid the heat and peak crowds. What do you recommend as a good time to go?

Your kids are at the perfect ages to plan your first trip to Disney World, Kelly!  In order to avoid crowds, just stick to one rule of thumb: go when most kids are in school.  If you plan a trip in January, for instance, avoid overlapping with the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.  February is also a great time to visit--and would fulfill both of your requirements, just avoid President's Day weekend.  If you would like to catch some magical holiday events, perhaps a visit during the first half of December would be great for your family.  Basically, the months of December, January and February all typically offer cool, pleasant temperatures and all have periods of low crowds, just remember to avoid holiday periods (you might also want to avoid the first weekend of January 2012 on account of the marathon).

Meet the Panelist: Darcie, Alabama

Given your inclination to plan a magical trip, I can already tell we have a lot in common. I'm Darcie, and my friends would be the first to tell you that Disney trip planning (especially dining!) is my love language. Of course, the vacations my family enjoys today look much different than they did when our kids were little, but while some of our favorite activities have evolved, Disney destinations still top our travel wish lists. Let's work together to plan a downright dreamy vacation for your family! Learn More About Darcie
