We are planning a trip to WDW summer of 2009 and are thinking of camping at Fort Wilderness. I've read that golf carts are available to rent for navigation around the campground. Do they allow 4-wheelers in the campground?

I can't recommend Fort Wilderness enough!

The extensive extra-curricular activites, the immaculate comfort stations, and the nightly movies and campfire make it stand out shoulders above any campground I've visited.

Because of its vastness, the advice you received about renting a golf cart is not off-base. (It's not required, though, as bus stops are plentiful throughout the campus.) You can rent them at check-in (they've recently moved from the bike barn) by the day or you can bring your own gas or electric golf cart at no additional surcharge. The use of four-wheelers (ATVs and UTVs), though, is prohibited.

You may not "need" to rent a golf cart for your entire stay, especially if your loop is near the marina. However, one of my family's favorite activities is to go "looping" in our golf cart and visit all 28 loops, especially during around a holiday (Halloween, Christmas) when families decorate their campsites.

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
