I am planning a trip to WDW in September for 3 adults and a 4 year old. I am looking at staying at the Port Orleans Riverside Resort. The problem that I am running into is deciding which side to stay on (the Alligator Bayou or the Mansion Section). HELP!!!

Here's the scoop on the differences between the Alligator Bayou and mansion rooms at Port Orleans Riverside:  Legend has it that pioneers traveled up the Sassagoula River from the "city" (referring to French Quarter).  The Magnolia section buildings were created with building materials from the city, thus the grand exteriors.  As they got further upriver, building supplies became scarce and they improvised with whatever materials they could find.  So, while the Magnolia section rooms are stately and refined, the Alligator Bayou lodges impart more of a backwoods, southern charm.

In the end, your decision is a matter of personal preference, but I can tell you that our recent stay there was wonderful.  Our room was located in the Alligator Bayou section (lodge 18) and was a very short distance from the food court/resort lobby area.  The walk to the bus stop only took a couple of minutes as well.  The mirrors and bedposts in our room looked as though they were made from the remains of a nearby downed tree and the "quilts" on the beds could have been heirlooms Grandma made with her own hands.

Personally, I prefer the charm and character of the Alligator Bayou rooms to the elegance and refinement the Magnolia rooms offer, but of course, that's just me.  Rest assured knowing that whichever section you choose, the beautiful landscaping and quiet charm of Port Orleans Riverside won't leave you disappointed!
