    Planning 1st trip to WDW in 2010. DH, self, DS 5y, DD 3y and MIL. Where should we stay, what do we need to be sure and see or do? Where is the best place to dine with characters?

    Shanna:

    When it comes to your accommodations, you need to ask yourself if your mother-in-law would prefer some privacy.  Any of the Deluxe resorts will sleep 5 in a standard room as will a room at Port Orleans: Riverside with its trundle beds for your 3-year-old.  However, the privacy curtain (only at the Moderates) may not be enough!

    You may want to consider:

    • Family Suites: Your most economical option are the suites at All-Star Music which sleep 6 thanks to a pull-out sofa and a convertible oversized chair and ottoman.  It comes with two bathrooms and a kitchenette, along with a bedroom and a queen-sized bed.
    • Cabins at Fort Wilderness: Although these only have one bathroom, its leg up is its full-size kitchen and living area that houses a Murphy bed you can pull down for sleeping.  The private bedroom has a set of bunks and a double bed.  We enjoy the outside deck and grill that can also provide a little extra breathing space, if necessary.
    • Two-bedroom Villa:  The most spacious of your choices, is also the most expensive.  However, Old Key West can fit into many budgets, especially if you make the most of your kitchen and a day or two at the pools instead of the parks.
    As for Character Dining, it is simply a must-do with the ages of your children.  From Crystal Palace featuring Pooh and Friends to Akershus to meet all the princesses, you have many options for that age.  Those two would top my list as would Garden Grill at Epcot with Mickey and Chip 'n' Dale.  For a good comprehensive list, visit www.allears.net.  Click on dining and then Character Dining on its side menu!
