Well hello there, Terese. It's so nice to meet you!
February is such a lovely time to visit the Walt Disney World Resort. While I love to visit during all times of year, the temperature is usually cooler and one of my new favorite festivals is often happening at this time of year. The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts is such a unique festival that plunges this iconic park into a world where all forms of art reign supreme! I especially enjoy the Food Studios and cannot wait to bring my father this year. Of course, cooler temperatures sometimes mean that our favorite water-themed attractions close for refurbishment, so let's dive into that (and not into the water as it may be too cold) right now!
We will not know about specific closures during your visit until they are announced. These announcements are either made on the Disney Parks Blog or in red writing across the attraction's page of the website. However, we can look back to make some guesses.
Historically, the Disney Skyliner has been closed for periods in late January and usually reopened by the time February rolled around. While this isn't a guarantee, if history repeats itself, it should be open for your early February visit.
As far as Kali River Rapids at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, it has at times returned from its annual refurbishment in January, February, and March. Once again, I can't guarantee anything, but while this one may be open when you visit in early February, it's not highly likely.
And then we come to Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom Park. This one is even more of a wild card as it hasn't even officially opened yet, let alone gone down for an annual refurbishment. While we can look to its predecessor, Splash Mountain, for some historical information, it may not be useful in making predictions. Nevertheless, in its last few years of operation, it sometimes went down in early January and then returned in early to late February (sometimes as late as March). Of course, say it with me now, this is not a guarantee of if or when it will be closed. Be sure to follow along on each attraction's page for the most up-to-date information.
It's also important to remember that attractions aren't guaranteed to be open, even if a refurbishment isn't scheduled in advance. While it doesn't happen very often, the future isn't as predictable as things are in Madame Leota's crystal ball. Attractions are always subject to closures due to maintenance. After all, safety is the first key at the Walt Disney Company, which shows their commitment to ensuring all Guests and Cast Members are the safest they can be at all times. I don't even know if Leota herself can see some of these types of closures ahead of time! Or does she only see things related to the dead? It's not entirely clear to me. I may need to ride the Haunted Mansion a few times in a row and do my signature "graveyard boogie" to decide. It's the only way.
Terese, my fingers are crossed that you will get to ride all the attractions that you desire when you visit next year. But fear not, there are so many experiences at the resort that you may not have much time to miss the attractions that are down for refurbishment.
