Welcome to planDisney, Barbara! I’m so glad you’re here. Just as Cinderella had her Fairy Godmother to help make her wishes come true, my fellow panelists and I are always excited to help guests plan fairytale vacations.
Barbara, there are quite a few ways to plan a Disney vacation, but before we jump into the steps I use with my family, I’ll encourage you to
create a My Disney Experience account if you don’t already have one. Through this free online account, you’ll manage all of your plans including tickets, dining reservations, and more.
Now, if it fits in your budget, I always recommend
staying at a Disney Resort Hotel. You’ll have added perks such as Early Theme Park entry. You’ll also find that
getting to and from the parks is quick and easy with complimentary transportation. So, step one is to check out all of the resort choices available. The category of resorts (
Value,
Moderate,
Deluxe, or
Deluxe villa) is based on price. After I factor in price, I like to think about my family and the different resort themes as they each have their own flavor and offerings. If you would like to have 5 or 6 guests in one room, but would still like a value resort, check out the Family Suites at
Disney's Art of Animation Resort. These have two bathrooms and a small kitchenette area. If you want a small property that's easy to navigate with a laid-back atmosphere, but don't have a Deluxe budget, my choice would
Disney's Port Orleans Resort- French Quarter. Each resort is special and I know you'll find something perfect for your traveling party.
Once you have a resort selected, you can add on park tickets to create a vacation package. If you are a first-time guest, I encourage you to consider at least one day in each of the four parks. Each park is unique in its offerings and vibe. Barbara, if you are not staying onsite at a Disney Resort Hotel, you can purchase tickets separately.
Vacation packages can be booked online through the My Disney Experience account with a deposit and then you can pay over time. For vacations beginning January 9, 2024, guests also have the option to add a
Disney Dining Plan to your package. If you like the “all-inclusive” feel, this is a great option.
Barbara, I hope this helps you get started on your planning journey and we are here for you every step of the way, so feel free to come back with as many additional questions as you have. We love to chat about our favorite resorts, our favorite shows at Walt Disney World, our dining recommendations, and much, much more!
Wishing you happy planning!
Lauren
