Jenna from CA Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

Hello, I am planning a trip for two to Disneyland and I am not sure whether it would be better to have both tickets on one account or have each on a separate. Does have both on one inhibit lightning lane usage?

Hey there, Jenna! We are so happy to have you at planDisney where we love helping fellow Guests plan their magical days at the Happiest Place on Earth!

When it comes to your question, you can actually arrive at the same solution whether you purchase both tickets on one account or separately. It really depends on who is the planner in the group. If it's you and your friend is just happy to tag along for the ride, go with purchasing them together. If you both might want a little autonomy during the day, go with purchasing separately, but link them to each of your accounts so you can still make selections together. Let's dig a little deeper into this so you can choose the best option for your party!

If you decide to purchase both tickets on your account, they are already good to go for making Genie+ Lightning Lane selections or purchasing Individual Lightning Lanes for your full party in just one tap. When you go to make a selection, you will be asked to confirm who from your party you would like to include from a list of Guests linked to your account. This is a great option if you plan to spend the whole day together!

If you purchase tickets separately, you can easily link the tickets to each other's accounts, which puts you right back in the same position to make Lightning Lane selections together. Once the tickets are purchased, you would open up the Disneyland Mobile App and tap into the three-bar menu in the bottom right-hand corner. Select "Tickets and Passes" and on the next screen access a pull-down menu by tapping the  "+" in the top right-hand corner. Choose "Link Tickets" and you will be given the option to either scan the barcode for your friend's ticket OR enter the ticket number manually. You could each do this so that you can each have the freedom to make Lightning Lane selections for both of you! Even if you've gone with the scenario above where you have purchased both tickets from one account, you could use the same process to link the ticket to your friends' Disneyland Mobile App, and POOF! You are both back in the position to make those Lightning Lane selections individually or together!

I really think it just comes down to how you like to visit the parks and how to make the day as seamless as possible. When I am with my family, I am the planner (my husband doesn't even have a Disneyland account) so it's just easier for me to have full control of the day. Even in this case, I can make Lightning Lane selections for us to all ride together or, for example, myself and my daughter to ride Space Mountain while my husband and son to ride Haunted Mansion.

Jenna, one thing you will want to take advantage of together is the unlimited digital downloads of all of the Disney PhotoPass photos that are captured each day that you have Genie+. This includes attraction photos, character greetings, and those keepsake pictures in front of Disneyland icons like Sleeping Beauty Castle! I would make a plan to hop in front of those cameras and strike a pose! Don't forget to ask for a Magic Shot - trust me!

I hope this was helpful in your planning, Jenna! If you have any more questions, come back to see us here at planDisney! We are always here for you.

    Magic awaits!
