we are planning another trip soon, which would be a better choice, Animal KIngdom Standard or PO Riverside...would it be worth the extra $ to go to AK or should we just stick with the moderates? we have never stayed in a deluxe...Thx

Hi Pamela!  Animal Kingdom Resort is an incredible experience but I will say if you aren't planning on getting a savannah view room then it is just another resort room to me!  If your family loves animals and watching them in a somewhat natural habitat then spend the extra money for at least a one time visit to this resort. But be sure and get a room that overlooks the animal areas and not the pool.

If you don't feel like you will be spending much time in your room then Port Orleans Riverside is an excellent choice.  You have the boat access to Downtown Disney and the resort has a relaxed and comfortable feel.

Deluxe resorts do offer a few more amenities which adds to the prices of the rooms.  They generally are closer to the parks and their recreation facilities are more extensive.  I find the moderates a perfect match to comfort and price.  The one draw for our family to the deluxe resorts are their locations and we prefer to be at the Yacht and Beach so we are within walking distance to EPCOT.  Choosing Animal Kingdom for a one time visit is a good choice but if you don't have any interest in animals then I would stay with Port Orleans!
