You've got a great plan of booking your vacation package early and paying it off before you go! That's definitely the best way to go!

The great news is that you are only required to provide a credit card to keep on file at your Resort hotel if you plan on charging things to your room. When you check in, if there is no credit card connected to your reservation, the Cast Member may just ask you if you want to provide one just in case you forgot, but it is not required at all.
