We are planning a trip to the Princess 5K. We will be staying off property and wanted your advice on the time to leave our hotel (20 min normal drive) for arrival to the race? Also, we would appreciate any advice for first-timers to the Princess Run.

    Hi Karen!

Thank you for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

You are going to think I'm crazy, but I highly suggest leaving no later than 2:30 a.m. from your hotel. There will be road closures that could make the trip longer.  Also, the runDisney buses begin running at 3:00 a.m. and once they start running, the traffic gets pretty crazy.  Be sure to look up road closure information in the Official Event Guide.  You will be able to find it online a few weeks before the race, and they will have printed copies at the race expo.

I have driven myself twice for the Princess Half Marathon and had no trouble as long as I left that early.

There will be a lot going on in the starting area, so you won't be bored.  There is music, food/drink vendors, information tents and more.  The actual starting line and corrals are a good fifteen-minute walk from the start area, so you will have that to do as well.  Runners generally start heading that way no later than 4:30 a.m.

My advice is to have fun!  The Princess Half Marathon is a great race with fun characters all along the way. Don't worry about having a fast race time, just be sure to have a good time!  It's not every day that you get to run at such a magical place, so take it all in and enjoy it.  Take some fun photos (I run with my phone) and talk to other runners. It's amazing how many friends I have made at runDisney events.

I hope this helps.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.
