We are planning a trip for 6 in October 2011. We would like to stay at Fort Wilderness in one of the cabins, how quickly do these fill up? When should we think about making a reservation?

Hi Amber!  As with all Disney resorts the Fort Wilderness cabins can fill up quickly due to any number of reasons.  I always suggest to my guests that they should book a room/cabin as soon as possible as they can cancel or even tweak their dates easier later on then trying to get a new reservation.

Having stayed in the cabins many times in the past and loving this experience I will caution you that they can be a tight fit for six especially if most of the six are adults.  The bedroom has a double bed and a bunk bed with a very small closet, small night stand, and a small 4 drawer chest.  The bathroom is ample size but with only one sink.  The kitchen is fully equipped and it is wonderful to have a full refrigerator, microwave, oven, and stove for your use.  In the living area there is a large table, sofa, coffee table, and a small children's table and two chairs.  From the back wall a murphy type bed pulls down for evening sleeping.  There is a television in the bedroom and one in the living area that includes a DVD player which is a nice plus.  Outside you have a large deck with picnic table and a small grill that is magically cleaned after every use!

Fort Wilderness is a wonderful Disney experience.  This is the place to stay if you are looking for quiet and the feeling of the peaceful outdoors.  You can ride horses, ponies, canoe, fish and many other activities.  Chip and Dale will also greet the guests every night at their campfire Singalong where you can roast marshmallows and hotdogs.  The holidays are very special at the Fort with many guests decorating their campsites and cabins. If you are considering any date in October close to Halloween then reserve now!
