Planning a trip in Oct/Nov with my son who has autism. Trying to balance low crowds, less rain and good swimming pool weather. Any suggestion what the best weeks might be? (Previously came in early May and that was perfect, so something similar). Thanks!

    Hello Andrew!

Thanks so much for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I hope you are having a magical week!

My youngest son is also autistic and we try to avoid high crowd days/times when visiting Walt Disney World. As far as which weeks work best, I tend to go when I think most people are in school and I don’t mind pulling my boys out for a few days. The first couple weeks of October are perfect for us as the weather is still nice, yet the crowds seem a bit easier to manage. The first week of November, after Halloween, is another great week to visit for lower crowds.

During your visit make sure you take advantage of the Disability Access Card Service. It’s proved to be a game changer in how my son is able to tolerate the parks. He is 6 and we use that card in addition to the FastPass+ System to help try to avoid some of the stress of the trip.

Upon your arrival at the parks you will want to head to Guest Relations and talk to a cast member about the Disability Access Service Card. Explain to them your son's specific needs and they will help determine which services will help improve your experience. This card can be used throughout your visit, so you only have to visit Guest Relations on your first day.

If noises can be an issue with your son sensory-wise, I recommend bringing a set of noise canceling headphones. We love the Peltor Junior brand. These headphones help block everyday crowd noise, help soften the sounds of the fireworks and also just help my son feel a little more secure.

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions as your plan your visit!

    See you real soon!
