Planning trip in Nov with my in-laws and 6 grandchildren. One of my nieces, age 3, is a type 1 diabetic. Are their special menu options, or menus with nutrition information on them for her? Anywhere to her to rest if she's too high or low w/o leaving park?

Chelsea, tons of cousins at Walt Disney World create the best family fun. You will be one well bonded, ecstatically happy, exhausted extended family by the end of your vacation!

Typically only packaged items have exact nutrition information. I also have a Type 1 diabetic in my family and we use apps such Livestrong and My Fitness Pal to estimate carbs by comparing foods of similar types in the databases. Chefs and managers of restaurants are aways willing to discuss ingredients or suggest the most suitable choice. Ask about sugar free options, which are often available, and note on table service reservations that a member of your party is diabetic.

If your niece needs a break to recover from an insulin reaction or blood sugar spike, take the sweet princess to a Baby Care Center. Located in every theme park, these spots offer a cool, quiet, private spot where she can recover.

Always, aways have juice, cookies, or other quick-acting carbohydrates in your bag. When your niece is distracted by Disney princesses and flying on elephants, she is less likely to notice the signs of dropping blood sugar. Along with higher than normal activity levels and irregular meal times, levels may seem to suddenly crash. You do not want to be trapped in a line for an attraction with a small child far away from a snack cart with nothing on hand to remedy low blood sugar.

Please contact me again if you have additional questions. I would love to put my experience to use helping your family have a magical vacation.
