    Planning trip next September when the "love bugs" are there. I am highly allergic to bug bites, do the "love bugs" bite people? I know they attach to your clothes and skin because I have been to WDW during September before. This is a

    Hello Susan! I'm a Florida native currently living in Indiana and the "love bugs" are one of things (along with spanish moss and palm trees) that remind me of home. Love bugs usually swarm around spring and late summer, so they might still be around during your September Walt Disney World trip. From all of my childhood years running around under the Florida sun I can tell you that I've never been bitten by a love bug. They are actually incapable of biting or stinging. They feed on the nectar from various types of plants and vegetation unlike the mosquito. Speaking of the mosquito, did you know that there is an urban myth that the University of Florida genetically engineered the love bug to control the mosquito population? Its totally false of course, but it reminds me of Pleakley from the Disney animated film Lilo and Stitch, who saves Earth from being destroyed to preserve the 'endangered mosquito population'. Ha!

    Love bugs are harmless, but if you are still worried about keeping the bugs away, I suggest carrying some bug spray in your bag and wearing dark clothing as they are attracted to light colors.
