We are planning a trip mid March 2009. Staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. 4 adults (mid forties), 8 yrs, 10 yrs, 21yrs, and 22yrs. Can you give us any insites into things we should not miss at our resort. We will be staying 7 nights/8 days.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is a resort I could go to and enjoy myself without ever going to any of the parks!  First, take the time to wander throughout the resort; it is filled with many treasures and art pieces from Africa, and many of the cast members are from Africa who are more than willing to answer any questions you may have.  You will also discover many savannah views throughout the resort; each offers a different perspective.

When you check in, make sure and take the time to look over the offerings (food, crafts, music, animal feedings, etc.) for the week.  You will find a variety of daily activities for children to participate in (most are free!) as well as some for families.  We've enjoyed the evening story telling by the Arusha Rock Fire Pit and the night time viewing of animals with night vision goggles.  If you'd really like to go all out and happen to be concierge guests, you could do either the Sunset Safari or Sunrise Safari.  There is an additional cost (as of 12/2008 the Sunrise Safari is $55 for adults; the Sunset Safari is $150 for adults) for these, but they provide chances to experience the animals in a more intimate manner followed by either breakfast or lunch.  The children can also sign up for a Bush Camp experience that is an additional cost ($70) that allows them to explore African culture through a variety of activities.  It can be booked by calling 407-WDW-PLAY.

I'd finally highly recommend dining at both Boma and Jiko at the resort.  The food is incredible and not to be missed!
